Sometimes, if you’re very lucky, a confluence of events conspire to send a muse to sit on your shoulder. It’s true. It happened to me this spring.
An invitation to be in a ceramic sculpture group show at the Say What? Gallery in Tannersville inspired by the quote, “Great art picks up where nature ends.” by Marc Chagall, coincided with my first trip to Colorado. There I fell in love with Aspen bark.
The striking black and white patterns seem to tell each tree’s history in a sort of hieroglyphics. I came home with lots of reference photographs determined to capture portraits of these trees. My muse and I have enjoyed exploring how to capture the endless possibilities that Aspens offer. We’ve just begun!
